Services
Thank you for choosing Boston Neuropsychological Services. Our expert clinicians have been trained at places such as Children’s Hospital of Boston, Harvard University, and the Yale Child Study Center. Because we have several specialized clinicians for each age group, you will not be stuck on a year-long waiting list. Please call to find out our current scheduling availability.
Following the evaluation, you will receive a report that clearly explains the factors that limit success. We will provide clear recommendations for home and school, and you will receive the report in about three weeks. We are confident that the evaluation process will help set your child on a path to higher achievement.
If desired, we will accompany you to a meeting with your school district to help write an Early Intervention Plan, Individualized Education Program (IEP), or 504 Accommodation Plan.
Evaluation Process
When you call our office, staff will describe our services, discuss your concerns and collect personal contact and insurance information. Our staff will then contact you with information about insurance benefits and schedule an in-person, intake appointment. Once an intake appointment is scheduled, you will need to download the age appropriate client paperwork to bring to your intake.
The intake specialist will conduct a one to two hour intake interview to identify the problem areas and determine the appropriate assessment measures and neuropsychologist for you or your child’s evaluation. The intake specialist will also discuss a service contract and payment options for the evaluation. An evaluation is then scheduled typically within 4-6 weeks of the intake appointment.
Please bring with you:
- Age appropriate client paperwork
- Any relevant contact information for mental health providers or teachers
- Any relevant mental health or school records (ie. Current Individualized Education Plan (IEP), previous Neuropsychological Evaluation reports)
- Insurance card
- Intake payment if applicable
The testing lasts anywhere from a few hours to a full day with breaks as needed. Occasionally, a second day of testing is needed. This comprehensive evaluation may include a diagnostic interview, observation, and computerized/paper-and-pencil tests. Interviews with parents, teachers, doctors, or other professionals may occur before or after the day of testing. A feedback session is then scheduled typically within 4 weeks of the evaluation.
Following the evaluation, you will have a report that clearly identifies area of personal strengths and potential limiting factors that may limit success.

During your feedback session, the neuropsychologist will review your evaluation report and discuss results, diagnosis, and recommendations. Together you will develop a plan to help successfully reach your goals. This may include scheduling future follow-up or therapy appointments. If desired, we can also accompany you to a meeting with your school district to help write an Early Intervention Plan, Individualized Education Program (IEP), or 504 Accommodation Plan.
Comprehensive Neuropsychological Evaluation
A neuropsychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of cognitive functions such as learning and memory or problem solving. Standard testing procedures are used to assess the various abilities that relate to learning and using knowledge and skills.
Neurodevelopmental Evaluation
A neurodevelopmental evaluation is a specialized comprehensive assessment of infants through preschool aged children with a wide range of developmental, behavioral, emotional, and learning difficulties.
Geriatric Evaluation
Patients see a neuropsychologist to evaluate a range of problems related to cognitive, social and emotional functioning.
Autism Spectrum Disorders
All children with autism spectrum disorders have communication impairments. Some children have delays in receptive and expressive language skills, while many children never develop verbal skills and require the use of an augmentative communication system.
Concussion Evaluations
A concussion is a complex pathophysiologic process affecting the brain, induced by traumatic biomechanical forces secondary to direct or indirect forces to the head. Disturbance of brain function is related to neurometabolic dysfunction, rather than structural injury, and is typically associated with normal structural neuroimaging findings.
IQ Testing
This evaluation provides formal documentation of a child’s I.Q. scores typically for admission purposes into a gifted and talented program.
Gifted and Talented Evaluation
This evaluation provides formal documentation of a child’s exceptional thinking skills, problem-solving, creativity, and academic achievement levels. I.Q. scores will be provided as part of the results.
Consultation Services
Our professional neuropsychologists are also available for consultation. Even if you had a school evaluation or a neuropsychological evaluation through another professional or agency, we are available to help you navigate through the findings, conclusions and recommendations. We can even consult regarding the IEP process and help advocate for services.
School Independent Educational Evaluation
What is the IEE? (Independent Educational Evaluation) An IEE is an evaluation of a child for the purposes of determining a special education program that is performed by personnel outside of the school system. That’s why simply put an IEE is called an “outside evaluation.”
