CTE is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by a unique defining pathology – the deposition of hyperphosphorylated tau. It is quite distinct from the pathological process of Dementia of the Alzheimer’s Type or other pathological aging processes. CTE is the consequence of repetitive head trauma. It has been shown that the bottom of the sulci and perivascular areas of the brain are regions of physical stress concentration and are subsequent areas of pathology.
