Dr. Varendra Gosein is a board-certified adult and forensic psychiatrist who completed training at the NYU School of Medicine. He has a background in internal medicine and neurology as well. Dr. Gosein has served in executive roles in both public and private settings where he has overseen the delivery of mental health care in multiple settings. Dr. Gosein has extensive experience with correctional care and working to improve standards of care within incarcerated settings. Dr. Gosein has worked with patients within the Rikers Island Jail, as well as the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, which has been under federal oversight for over 20 years
Dr. Gosein has served as an expert in both civil and criminal cases. He has experience with many types of cases, including standards of care, malpractice, testamentary capacity, involuntary commitment and treatment, dangerousness risk assessments, and competency to stand trial. An area of particular interest for Dr. Gosein is trauma and PTSD, and he has both published and spoken multiple times on this topic.
