Dr. Bernstein received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Louisiana State University. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at the Minneapolis VA Healthcare System with a focus on neuropsychological assessment. He subsequently completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at the Translational Research Center for Traumatic Brain Injury and Stress Disorders at the VA Boston Healthcare System. His internship and fellowship focused on providing neuropsychological assessment services to Veterans and their families for a wide range of psychiatric and neurological conditions. He has a particular specialty in the assessment of neurodegenerative diseases, traumatic brain injury and neurodevelopmental disorders (such as ADHD).
An accomplished researcher, Dr. Bernstein has published nearly 50 peer-reviewed articles in academic journals. His research has aimed to improve the measures used in neuropsychological assessment and their ability to predict patients’ difficulties in everyday life, including automobile driving safety. He has held leadership positions within several professional neuropsychological organizations, including the International Neuropsychological Society and the Association of Neuropsychology Students and Trainees.
